{"id":726,"date":"2009-01-15T13:45:27","date_gmt":"2009-01-15T20:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yeeality.com\/blog\/?p=726"},"modified":"2009-03-03T15:14:57","modified_gmt":"2009-03-03T22:14:57","slug":"rube","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yeeality.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/15\/rube\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 3: rube goldberg &#8211; photo candy catch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the third day, Alex Feng and I teamed up and worked on a Rube Goldberg machine using, a camera, LEGOS, Peanut M&#038;M&#8217;s, and lots of found items around ITP (mainly from the old &#8220;junk shelf&#8221;).  After seeing the <a href=\"http:\/\/labs.ideo.com\/2008\/10\/28\/the-incredible-ideo-global-chain-reaction-experience\/\">IDEO chain effect challenge<\/a> and  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EEF0cg1j35o\">a recent Honda Accord commercial<\/a>, I was inspired to look at more examples and build one myself.  The gist of our machine was to take a picture of a the user as s\/he tries to catch a piece of candy with their mouth. <\/p>\n<p>While playing with objects and learning about physics is real fun, I also really liked this project because the result is a big metaphor of sorts &#8212; lots of events in our lives, maybe all, can be perceived as a chain reaction.  We can see where things go wrong, and where things work out fluidly. . . etc.  Anyway, here&#8217;s Alex using the machine and some photos it took of some daring volunteers below.
